16 – 20^th November 2009, within the framework of the 13^th International Conference LIBCOM 2009 "Information Technologies, Computer Systems and Publishing Production for Libraries”, there was organized a specialized exhibition on the main subject matters:

- new computer technologies in information and library business;

- web technologies and digital information;

- CD-ROM and other data storage media in library and information sphere;

- publishing and book-trading technologies in the modern electronic environment;

- library equipment and materials.

At the exhibition the representatives of the Russian State Library exposed the stand with the information on project “Digital Dissertation Library of the RSL”. Visitors were demonstrated the website of the Digital Dissertation Library and also shown different stages of development of the project and main statistics concerning its functioning. There was also information about the system of protected document viewing DefView.

Besides, there were presented other collections of the digital library, as well as project “Open Digital Dissertation Library” and the new service offered by the Russian State Library "Testing textual documents for plagiarism" (“Antiplagiat”).

Participation in the exhibition made it possible for the RSL to set contacts with representatives of other libraries, to make them interested in opening Virtual Reading Rooms at their territories and to involve them in further cooperation.

17.11.2009 at the first plenary meeting, the director general of the Russian State Library Alexander Ivanovich Visly reported on the “Libraries and their Role in the Development of the Information – Oriented Society”. He spoke on the importance of libraries and highlighted the problems of storage and access to traditional media. Mr Visly proved the necessity of digitizing physical library collections for preservation and accessibility needs.
