15 – 20 November 2010, in the settlement of Yershovo (Moscow region) there was held the 14^th International conference and exhibition "LIBCOM 2010 — Information technologies, computer systems and publishing productions for libraries”. Traditionally, the conference was initiated by the Russian National Public Library for Science and Technology.

Subject matters discussed at the “LIBCOM" conference and its goals closely connected with the urgent problems modern libraries are facing attract directors and leading specialists of the largest libraries of the CIS countries, professionals of the library and information specializations, teachers and lecturers of different educational establishments, staff members of publishing houses, scientists, representatives of cultural and educational circles, and also representatives of database producers from all over the world to participate.

16 November 2010 within the framework of the first plenary meeting the director general of the Russian State Library (RSL) A. Visly spoke on the subject “National libraries: challenges of time”. His speech was devoted to the matters connected with libraries and their role in the modern society, to the necessity of digitization of physical collections and the related problems.

In the afternoon there took place seminar “Information messages on the held international events of the library and information spheres of the previous year and the schedule for the coming ones”. The representatives of the Russian State Library A. Visly (director general), I. Gruzdev (IT director), N. Avdeeva (head of the department of support of access to digital resources) told the audience about one of the most interesting and modern conferences devoted to the topics of digitization of different branches of culture – the International conference “Digital Century of Culture” (DCC 2010).

17 November 2010 there was a meeting of the Council of the Russian Association of Digital Libraries (NPP “ELBI”). The director of the association I. Gruzdev defined the present directions of the activities realized by the association and its functions in general. Further on, the councillors worked out strategy of the NPP “ELBI” for the years of 2011-2012 and the role of the association in the modern information society.

On permission of the councillors, the meeting was broadcast directly on the official website of the association www.aselibrary.ru.

Within the framework of conference “LIBCOM 2010” there was organized a specialized exhibition devoted to the following subject matters:

– new computer technologies in information and library business;

– internet technologies and electronic data;

– CD-ROM and other data storage media in libraries and information technologies;

– publishing and selling technologies in the modern electronic environment;

– libraries: equipment and materials.
