Who is a scientist?

16th May 2013 at the territory of the Information telegraph agency of Russia (ITAR – TASS) there took place press conference “Fighting plagiarism in educational and scientific works”.
Among the participants there were:
- Alexander Visly, director general of the Russian State Library;
- Sergey Roschin, pro – rector of the Higher School of Economics
- Konstantin Rudakov, member correspondent of the RAS;
- Yuri Zhuravlev, academician of the RAS;
- Yuri Chekhovich, CEO of CC ”Anti – Plagiat”.
- Alexander Visly, director general of the Russian State Library;
- Sergey Roschin, pro – rector of the Higher School of Economics
- Konstantin Rudakov, member correspondent of the RAS;
- Yuri Zhuravlev, academician of the RAS;
- Yuri Chekhovich, CEO of CC ”Anti – Plagiat”.
The conference was devoted to the problems of revealing plagiarism in text documents, and also to the development of means of fighting plagiarism in scientific works.
Konstantin Rudakov pointed out that plagiarism and scientific work are incompatible. In any work more or less scientific the percent of plagiarism must be zero.
In his speech Alexander Visly explained that the best method for revealing plagiarism in any of the scientific works was the test by the “Antiplagiat” system, together with the expert check. The RSL offered their new service “Testing texts for plagiarism against the collection of Digital Dissertation Library of the Russian State Library”. As the result of this check customers got the RSL expert’s report on the found borrowings based on the report produced by the “Antiplagiat.RSL” software.
The participants of the conference came to the conclusion that works produced in educational and scientific spheres did need check. That would prompt their authors to carry out independent research, which in its turn would raise the level of knowledge of the Russian people and would raise the quality of education in Russia.
