In April the Centre of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library offers its old friends and those who only start opening for themselves a miraculous world of oriental culture new video-lectures.
A series of talks on the rare languages of Asia and Africa is launched by lecture “Languages of Vietnam: unity in diversity” by graduate of the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University Julia Dokshina and RSL head librarian Anastasia Surkova.
The ethno-linguistic diversity of the North Caucasus will be dealt with in the captivating speech by Tanzila Tchabieva, candidate of History and researcher of the Department of Caucasus of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology named after N.N. Miklukho-Maklai of the Russian Academy of Sciences. She is not only a well-known specialist of the branch, but a representative of a North Caucasus ethnos and a bearer of its culture.
Lecture “Nigerian Disco” by the incredible Vassily Minkov, junior researcher of the Institute of Problems of Transmitting Information of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who has incarnated his interest towards the development of cultural anthropology into the project of his own called World Music Geek. Being famous as a music festival organizer too, he will present to you genre peculiarities, novelty and heritage of the music style which used to be popular in the 70s of the last century.
While Ilia B. Spector, candidate of history and senior researcher of the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University and author of Telegram channel “Pith Helmet”, will take us to India, where paper press remains influential, and will speak about the history and role of political caricature over there for the last three centuries.
