October 8 – 9, 2024, the Russian State Library organized the All-Russia caucus devoted to the problems of implementation and modification of the BBK library tables. Specialists from Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Ulyanovsk and Tver, Stavropol and Kaliningrad, Barnaul and Pskov, as well as from other places of Russia, in a hybrid format discussed the practices of implementation of the BBK library tables by the professionals of library and information sphere, beginning with strictly technical aspects and up to the matters of passing the acquired experience to younger specialists. There were outlined main problems and delineated more likely prognoses for further optimizing library bibliographic classification tables.

At the plenary meeting opening the sessions, the director general of the Russian State Library and president of Russian Library Association Vadim Duda emphasized the importance of libraries' work in systemizing their collection items. Candidate of History, Nina Golodnova, head of the RSL BBK research centre, spoke on the peculiarities of the modernization process for BBK library tables and on the tasks of priority for the coming years. Ekaterina Kononova, deputy head of the RSL BBK research centre, focused on the results of the library survey which had been carried out in order to reveal the problem points in library practices of different institutions using BBK tables on their own. The speech by professor Marina Pivovarova, Doctor of Economics, chief librarian of the RSL BBK research centre, descibed the work of the professional BBK community. Then, other most interesting reports were presented.

All in all, the caucus included several sections dealing with diverse specific aspects of work with BBK library tables. There were considered general matters of managing library BBK workflows, prospects of further development for BBK library tables in the conditions of digital transformation of the establishments of culture. Among others, there were touched upon staff problems and demonstrated new thematic books and manuals.

As a result, there was recognized the necessity of closer cooperation of libraries in implementation and further development of library and bibliography classification, that including sharing the experience in the electronic environment. Then, there was distinguished the need in new methodology literature which would contain the examples for guiding librarians working with BBK. And to crown it all, there were offered programmes of further professional training for specialists, which could be accomplished at the RSL.
