Open Day at the Russian State Library 03.06.2012
 
The Russian State Library (RSL) hold the 30th jubilee Open Day for the staff of libraries of Moscow and Moscow region.
The event took place 29th May 2012 at the main building of the RSL. The plenary session was opened by Victor Fedorov, the president of the RSL. The following people to speak were Tatyana Manilova, deputy director of the Department of cultural heritage and the head of the Department of libraries and archives of Ministry of Culture RF, and Yuri Laptev, President’s Counsellor in Culture and Art Affairs (secretary of the Council). In the end of his speech Y. Laptev handed V. Fedorov President’s letter of commendation for his work in the President’s Council for Culture and Art and his contribution in the development of library business.
In continuation of the session the representatives of the RSL spoke on the results of work of the main library of the state and on plans and innovations in their own work. The questions touched upon were changed conditions of the information development of the society and possibilities of usage of new technologies in library business.
Tatyana Blinova, deputy head of the department of support of access to digital resources of the RSL presented her speech “Digital resources of the Russian State Library”. There she highlighted results of work on processing and forming digital collections of the RSL; spoke on the process of cooperation of virtual readers and library; presented the latest data on the collections of the Digital Library of the RSL and on how to view documents; she laid emphasis on the Digital Dissertation Library of the RSL, which is the largest digital collection; she also presented new projects and services of the RSL aimed at improving service for the RSL users.
Within the framework of the Open Day there took place exhibition “Honouring Our People’s Heroism” which was timed to the 200th anniversary of the victory of Russia in the National War of 1812.
Guests of the event visited expositions in different departments of the RSL and participated in discussions where they got answers to numerous questions and exchanged experience with colleagues.
The Open Day celebrations were concluded by most interesting excursions around the departments of the library, Book Museum and Pashkov’s House.
