Lecture Contemporary Art in Yemen 25.10.2023

The RSL Centre of Oriental Literature proceeds presenting their videos depicting the diverse sides of culture of the peoples of Asia and Africa. This time we would like to offer you a lecture devoted to the art of one of the ancient Asian states occupying the southwestern to southern end of the Arabian Peninsula.

What do you know about the art of Yemen? Which are the basic painting techniques? What themes are in the focus? Which art schools do they belong to and what styles do they prefer? What can be said about impressionism or abstractionism in their works? Can there be found realism or sufism concepts followed or represented? How could the traditions of the Soviet art school be taken over or developed? All these and lots of other interesting details will be reported to you by Anna Moiseeva, graduate of the Russian State University for the Humanities, art historian and gatherer, orientalist, who has been studying the culture of the Near East for long twenty years.
